WHAT IS HEMS?

Holm English Medium School, HEMS, is a private educational institution in Khartoum, Sudan founded in 1979 by Mrs. Leela Kheir. It is a day school with the academic year starting in August and ending in April . It comprises three schools, Pre-School, Primary and Secondary.

HEMS (Holm English Medium School), located in Ma’amura, Khartoum, Sudan, is the result of the vision of Mrs. Leela Kheir who founded the institution as a kindergarten in 1979.  Students leaving the HEMS kindergarten usually went on to join Clergy House School at the age of five.  In 1983, the school was expanded to include the first and second grades.  During this time, the students were prepared for the competitive Unity High School Entrance Examination which allowed them to join Unity High School upon passing the examination. more>>

HEMS started as a kindergarten that prepared and qualified children to enter English medium primary schools. HEMS has since expanded into a fully independent school preparing students for University entrance examinations and beyond. It is considered to be one of the best schools in Khartoum, teaching the IGCSE curriculum to cater to the needs of a challenging future.

The School is an English-medium school which caters to children of all nationalities between the ages of 3 and 19. HEMS prides itself on being highly academic and on unrelentlessly striving to raise academic standards. In this ever-changing world where individual and public morality are a continuous struggle, the school not only provides the solid academic background required to make outstanding students but also endeavours to lay the foundation needed for the students to become well-rounded world citizens by promoting high social and moral values.
